Once a Movement, PTI Has Now Become a Political Party
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was the biggest surprise of the election 2013. The party made a strange appearance after emerging as the third largest party. PTI had shown signs of growth prior to the election when it managed to arrange a historic Jalsa on Minar-e-Pakistan. It was a surprise and many people were hoping for a great movement that would take down many other political parties.
PTI had announced to fight against the status quo and bring many other changes in the country. The party started its work as a movement that was determined to bring political change in Pakistan. It was to change something fundamentally in the political sphere of Pakistan.
The start was great, everything was flowing smoothly. In the beginning, the party started gathering people like Shafqat Mehmood, Jahangir Tareen, Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and many others. But, everything was still fine. PTI was still a great movement that intended to change the political scenario of Pakistan.
PTI was receiving applauses from different spheres of Pakistani society. Especially media gave huge coverage to PTI gatherings and its cause and the slogan of change received widespread acceptance among peoples.
The 2013 election victory was a new phase for PTI. It made the PTI realize its power and how much strength it could get. With the passage of time, it got more prominence. Later, Dharna politics gave PTI some strength in terms of street power.
With the rise of PTI‘s power, the opposition was watching all the developments cautiously. The PPPP had lost most of its voter base at the hand of PTI in the 2013 election and many of its leaders had turned for PTI. The fall of one of the largest political parties had begun.
The Pakistan Muslim League (N) led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was watching the progress of PTI cautiously. The political rhetoric of the country was changing. But, the PML (N) was not PPPP and it realized a potential threat that it was facing in the form of PTI. Mian Shahbaz Sharif launched different projects and he was able to attract the public and maintain goodwill about the party. He was able to gain support as a party that was focused on progress.
The PTI had realized that it is not possible to get on the top of the ladder and you need something different in order to come to the power. It was realized by the party’s senior leadership and continues to do so. The will to change the country was not changed but the strategy to achieve that goal was altered.
It led PTI to turn to the shortcuts and those shortcuts are dangerous when you do not know where you are going. These shortcuts were electables in different constituencies. Instead of making moves based on what it a movement stands for, PTI started focusing on what we call a political party that aims to get the government. It has now started to become a reality. Yes, you read it right, PTI has become a political party. IT has gone from a movement to a party that aims to install its government.
The party is still running for the change by becoming a political party instead of a movement. PTI has realized that the process of change has a long way to go, so why not go for a shorter path.
If you take a look at PTI you will realize a struggle for power and a quest for the government. Much has changed in the past some years. The party is still focused on change, but it seems that the party wants to bring change through expediency. The movement has finally become a political party and it is expected that people will start looking for the other alternatives if PTI does not deliver.
